Pakistan has confirmed it has deployed troops to Saudi Arabia as cross-border attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen continue to target Saudi infrastructure.

“The forces of Pakistan are already there,” Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, head of the military's media wing, said in an interview with CNN on Wednesday. Details on troop numbers and capabilities were not disclosed due to classification.

The announcement follows the signing of a trilateral defense pact between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey, often referred to as the Mecca Alliance. This agreement commits the nations to collective defense and the rapid deployment of forces to safeguard Saudi Arabia.

The escalation comes after Houthi forces launched deadly missile attacks on Abha International Airport and Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, killing three civilians and injuring dozens. Saudi officials confirmed counterstrikes, destroying Houthi missile launchers.

Chaudhry reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security and described the deployment as defensive, underscoring collective deterrence goals outlined in the pact. However, he declined to clarify whether Pakistani troops would be involved in operations across the border in Yemen.
